This is long overdue. I have been so busy with Doodlekit's latest release I just never got around to updating Heathbits to the new templates. I didn't have the time to mess with it. But I finally broke down and decided I need to do it. I mean, what kind of web designer doesn't have a cool website, right?
The main portfolio page is my attempt at a responsive parallax design. Parallax is hardly perfected to date, and trying to make it responsive for mobile devices is rather difficult. Most of the issues I ran into had to deal with 'choppiness' on the scrolling effect when using different browsers. Touch screen devices like tablets and smartphones just don't support parallax scrolling at all. On computers, it depends on the 'input' device you are using for scrolling. Keyboard keys, dragging the scrollbar with your mouse, and the scroll wheel all have different effects on different computer types (PC or Mac) and different browsers.
Because of this I was forced to use graceful degradation on touchscreen devices (mainly smartphones and tablets) and just make the background images static. Not to mention all the smooth scrolling issues with these touchscreens. Again, extremely 'choppy' and it crashed my iPhone and iPad both randomly. Here I removed the smooth scrolling and just did an instant 'jump' to each section instead.
If you are on a desktop computer, you should be able to enjoy the full effect. If your on a touchscreen mobile device, it won't be as fancy, but it will be functional and look good.
I hope you like my new design - feel free to shoot me some feedback!
